David Guetta has once again been named the number one DJ in this year’s DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll. This marks his fourth time holding the top spot, over a decade after he initially received the title in 2011.
Previously, his friend and mentee Martin Garrix had topped the poll. With each of them securing four wins, they are now second only to Dutch trance legend Armin van Buuren, who has achieved five number one rankings.
It’s incredible! It’s wonderful!” Guetta said of his win. “It’s great because I feel like every time I’m on the top of the Top 100, it’s for a different reason. You know, the two previous times were probably thanks to Future Rave. This time is probably thanks to ‘I’m Good’ and those big crossover records. I love that I can express different feelings in different ways.
Since his breakthrough with the hit track “A Little More Love” in 2001, Guetta has garnered international success. He has managed to maintain his status as a pop megastar while staying connected to his musical roots. In the past year alone, he has collaborated with renowned artists such as Britney Spears, Zara Larsson, and Bebe Rexha.
Furthermore, Guetta delved deeper into his Future Rave records and party concept this year. He even brought Future Rave to Hï Ibiza on Friday nights, reconnecting with fellow DJs and focusing on music for the community rather than solely creating radio hits or streaming-focused tracks. He believed that this approach brought him happiness, satisfaction, and also had a significant impact on the music scene.
Guetta also dived deeper into his Future Rave records and party concept this year – an effort which included bringing Future Rave to Hï Ibiza on Friday nights.
It’s been nice to almost, let’s say, go back to my foundations and talk to only DJs, rather than to be on the radio, or make music just for streams. It was just music for the community only, and that gave me a lot of happiness and satisfaction. And also, I think it had a big influence on the scene.
This year’s Top 100 DJs poll received 1.3 million votes from 237 countries.
